PIO 9.- Historic centre of Trujillo

Historic centre of Trujillo

The PIO is situated in an excellent spot to admire the beautiful town of Trujillo: its main square, its grand houses, palaces etc., but also it gives us a vantage point to see a wide and interesting range of species with the unequalled view of Trujillo as a backdrop. It would be hard to find a better place to watch birds in such extraordinary surroundings. To the growing ranks of “Urban Birders”, this is an outstanding spot. Birds, heritage and history come together here.

Additional Information:

The PIO lies in the historic centre of Trujillo (the street ascending to the castle).
From the Main Square (where the Tourist Information is situated) it is just a few minutes’ walk.
Parking options
Any car park in the town will be suitable, for example there is an underground carpark in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento (entrance from the N-521 or Avenida Ramón y Cajal).
Recommended season
Spring and summer.
Interesting species present
One of the main attractions are the omnipresent Lesser Kestrels, but we can also add the White Storks, Common and Pallid Swifts, hirundines (Barn Swallow, House and Crag Martins), Jackdaw, overflying Red Kite etc.
Options for short walks in the vicinity
For those who wish to combine urban birdwatching with a beautiful walk through the old town, we suggest the following route, just short of 2 km long and arriving at the Main Square. (see track).
